Transit & mobility
The SRI campus is an optimal location to support Menlo Park’s housing obligations while preserving neighborhood character and mitigating traffic. The project’s proximity to transit serves as one of the most important features of the site.
Community feedback outlined widespread concern for traffic and safety. Our plan includes developing bike lanes and pedestrian paths to both aid in integrating the SRI campus with the Menlo Park community, and create safe alternatives to single-vehicle transportation. Connecting with the planned CalTrain tunnel through Parkline to Middlefield will contribute to increased connectivity throughout the community. Access to the commercial component will be concentrated along the Middlefield and Ravenswood corridors to help preserve the residential neighborhood along Laurel Rd.
In accordance with community feedback, placing housing near public transportation options will help alleviate increased traffic from new residents. Opening the SRI campus with access to CalTrain will offer the community safe and reliable pathways to reach public transit, and a planned shuttle for commercial use will help further reduce single-vehicle transportation. We anticipate these enhancements will encourage an increase in public transit usage for all members of the Menlo Park community.
